Data recovery plugin for HP StorageWorks EVA
Data recovery plugin for HP StorageWorks EVA is a specialized addition to UFS Explorer Technician designed to facilitate the recovery of data lost from HP Enterprise Virtual Arrays. This external component enables technical experts to handle Vraid-operated EVA systems, overcoming various complexities associated with the use of this proprietary RAID implementation. Integrated into the software, the plugin equips it with the support for this SAN solution, which includes the possibility to reconstruct the Vraid array configuration, inspect the content of the virtual volumes and perform further data retrieval.
Key features
The software identifies and interprets the metadata describing the Vraid layout within the EVA storage array, including disk group organization, redundancy levels and other relevant parameters. The user can easily switch between different configuration versions, examine their states in order to select the one that is most suitable for data recovery purposes. Following this, the disks comprising the SAN pool are listed for verification. If certain members are not recognized, for example, due to metadata damage, it is possible to add them manually.
The software provides support for Vraid redundancy, ensuring data integrity even in the absence of some disks. In such an event, it automatically deploys redundancy mechanisms inherent to the respective Vraid scheme. This capability is available for all redundant Vraid configurations – Vraid1, Vraid5 and Vraid6. By contrast, Vraid0 lacks built-in redundancy and requires all its components to be operational.
Upon the choice of the preferred metadata version, the software utilizes it to translate the volume's address space and ensure the accurate reading of the available file systems. After that, the user gets a list of virtual volumes, being able to access their content on the spot. In this regard, the software not only minimizes the time required to prepare for further data recovery, but also reduces the likelihood of errors caused by manual reconstruction complexities.
The file system preview function within the plugin offers a convenient way to explore the content of found virtual volumes. Thanks to it, the user can select any volume presented in the list and instantly evaluate its file system, even without license activation. Such an option makes it simple to verify the relevance of data and its condition before initiating any further recovery procedures.
Once the selected virtual volume is mounted within the program, it can be processed there like any standard storage device. Users have all the existing tools at their disposal to extract valuable information and can finish the recovery process by exporting the restored folders and files to a secure external location.
It is easy to activate and start exploiting the plugin's functionality, with no need for any elaborate configuration procedures. Upon download and quick installation, the component seamlessly integrates into the list of plugins in UFS Explorer Technician and becomes available for use via the Plugin Manager built into the program.
