Automatic interpretation of storage pool metadata

The software automatically identifies the metadata associated with storage pools within the IBM Storwize system, collecting all necessary parameters for proper reconstruction of its layout. Users are then presented with a list of detected pools, from which they can select the desired one for further operations. Once a pool is chosen, the Mdisks that comprise it are displayed for verification. In case some of its components are missing, for instance, as a result of severe metadata corruption, it is possible to define them using a dedicated option.

Support for basic RAID levels and DRAID

The program supports redundancy realized at the Mdisk level of IBM Storwize arrays, thereby maintaining data integrity in scenarios where certain drives within the RAID set become unavailable. The software automatically applies redundancy mechanisms inherent to the utilized RAID scheme (in case of a redundant configuration). RAID support relates to all standard RAID levels, including RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5 and RAID 10, non-standard RAID 6 with a long Q-stripe as well as to distributed RAID patterns – both DRAID-5 and DRAID-6.

Immediate access to virtual volumes

The plugin retrieves information regarding virtual volumes from the detected metadata, allowing it to map their address space and enable access to the available file systems. Consequently, users receive a list of virtual volumes and can open any of them on the spot. Such an approach makes it possible to minimize preparation for subsequent data recovery and lower the risk of errors associated with manual assembly. Access is provided to both generic (thick) and thin-provisioned volumes, ensuring smooth operations regardless of the volume type.

Convenient file system preview

The plugin offers a built-in tool for previewing the file system of the selected volume. This feature allows users to examine the content of the virtual volumes, consider the relevance and condition of the data and take informed decisions regarding further recovery actions. Notably, this function is ready for use at once, without license activation, thereby giving the possibility to evaluate the plugin’s effectiveness and ensure its suitability for the needs prior to making any commitments.

Efficient data recovery from IBM Storwize systems

The selected virtual volumes are promptly mounted within the program's interface. This allows users to navigate or scan them as they would any common storage device. The software offers a comprehensive suite of tools serving to facilitate data recovery and obtain maximum possible results. And once the desired folders and files are restored, they can be easily exported to a secure local or network storage.

Straightforward activation in the host software

The activation process for the plugin requires no effort. Users can enable and start exploiting its functionality without the need for any configuration steps. Following a quick download, installation and software restart, the add-on becomes accessible through the list of plugins in UFS Explorer Technician and can also be managed via the embedded Plugin Manager tool.
